PADI Instructor Development Course + Instructor Examination
Training needed to become a PADI Instructor comes from 2 separate sections: First you go through a PADI Instructor Development course conducted by a PADI Course Director at Raya Divers. After the course you participate in a 2-3 day Instructor Examination organized by PADI. You can do the Instructor Examination in Phuket or even in your home country.
On top of the basic instructor training, there are additional optional courses that you can choose to do if interested: Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI), Specialty Instructor Courses or DAN Courses.
If you are a PADI Divemaster or have equivalent training (for example CMAS P3): you can start instructor training (IDC). If you are a PADI Assistant Instructor or an instructor with teaching status in another dive organization (for example CMAS M2), your next step will be the OWSI program (= only the last 5 days of the instructor course). In both situations, after your training you will participate in a PADI Instructor Examination (IE). After successfully completing the examinations you will be authorized to teach all PADI courses from Open Water to Divemaster level.
In the Raya Divers Instructor Development Course you will perform all the required lectures and exercises under the supervision of a course director though you will often also participate in real courses with real students. You can choose between traditional “daytime program” and the popular “evening program”, which gives you a possibility to participate in dive trips during the day. Both programs fit well for someone on a holiday. If you stay a longer time in Phuket you might want to do the course at a slower pace through the season. It is also possible – that we will make a schedule that suits you as our PADI Course Director lives permanently in Phuket.
The course takes 9 days (or 13 evenings) + the examinations. After completing the Instructor Examination we will give you a chance to practice teaching under the supervision of more experienced instructors. You will get lots of advice and useful tips for teaching. This way you quickly become an instructor that has much more experience than the average instructor who have just completed the training. This makes it much easier to find your 1st job as a PADI Instructor. It is possible that your first job is at Raya Divers, or if not, at least you will get lots of useful contacts from Thailand and other parts of the world.
You will be learning the following under a PADI Course Director’s supervision:
• PADI teaching system
• PADI teaching philosophy
• Contents and teaching of different PADI courses
• The meaning and purpose of theory lectures
• The meaning and purpose of confined water training
• The meaning and purpose of conducting open water dives
