Khao Lak – how to get there
Khao Lak is only 80 km north of Phuket airport and it is very easy to travel there.
Summary of easy ways to get there:
Package tours:
Tour operators are only just starting to sell package tours to Khao Lak. It’s the easiest and often the cheapest way to have 1-3 weeks holiday in Khao Lak as your hotel is also included. So look up the package offers that your local travel agencies have.
Individual trips by plane:
You can book by internet or through your travel agent for most flights to Phuket Airport. It’s possible to fly through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore with your luggage checked-in all the way until you arrive at Phuket Airport.
The other possibility is to book your flight to Bangkok and then buy a domestic flight to Phuket from the Bangkok airport. There are a lot of local airlines (Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Phuket Air, Andaman Air, 1-2 Go, Nok Air, Air Asia) and with flights departing almost every hour. The smaller airlines often have special offers so this option can save you some money on your domestic flights. The bad side is that you have to take your luggage in Bangkok and go by foot or taxi 1.5 km to the Domestic terminal. On arrival at Phuket Airport take a taxi or minibus to Khao Lak.

Individual trips by plane/bus:
Book through the internet or a travel agency for your flights to Bangkok. On arrival in Bangkok take a taxi to the southern bus terminal or if you will be spending some time in Bangkok, you can book your bus tickets to Khao Lak from any local travel agency.
We recommend VIP buses, which are air conditioned (it’s really cold in the buses, so take something warm to wear with you). There are a few departures everyday, make sure your bus will pass Khao Lak on the way (and stop there as well!). The trip takes anything from 12 to 16 hours. On arrival in Khao Lak, take a local songtaew taxi (pickup with seats at the back) to your chosen hotel.

From other Raya Divers destinations (Phuket, Krabi, Raya Yai, Ko Lanta):
From Phuket or Krabi you can either take a local bus (cheap but slow), minibus (little bit more expensive, but much faster) or air conditioned taxi ordered from Raya Divers (the costliest but fastest option) to Khao Lak. The easiest way is to buy bus tickets is from local travel agencies. from Ko Lanta an air conditioned taxi is the easiest way to get there.
Daily speedboat from Raya Island leaves about 15.00pm to Phuket. After arriving at the Chalong pier you can continue to Khao Lak with your choice of transportation.
